How to Order Windows 7 SP1 DVD Disc Media

Microsoft has officially released Windows 7 Service Pack 1 RTM comprising the previously released security patches, performance and stability updates. There are a few convenient ways to obtain this service pack via online mode, including direct download from Microsoft Download Center or just allow the Windows Update to take care the service pack installation automatically.

However, if you do not wish to utilize the network bandwidth to download the gigantic service pack build, you can opt to order DVDs that contain the first service pack for Windows 7. In order to cater for the Windows 7 machines that are not connected to the Internet, the Redmond company is providing the DVD to the customers from various countries in North America, South America, Africa, Europe and Asia.

Each customer is eligible to order up to 3 copies of the physical media DVD. Note that the DVD only contains the service pack build and the Windows 7 setup installer is not bundled. In other words, it’s not Windows 7 with SP1 integrated DVD media. Although the product DVD media itself is free of charge, but the shipping and packaging costs apply.

Here’s the direct link to order Windows 7 SP1 RTM DVD:

Top10 most liveable cities in the world

Auckland
CITY OF LIFESTYLE: Aucklanders enjoy living in one of the world's 10 best cities, the Economist survey confirms.
Vancouver topped the list of the world's most liveable cities for the fifth straight year, while Melbourne claimed second place from Vienna and Australian and Canadian cities dominated the list's top 10 spots.
Auckland was in 10th place.
In the annual survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit, the Canadian west coast city and 2010 Winter Olympics host scored 98 per cent on a combination of stability, health care, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure - a score unchanged from last year.
Vancouver has topped the list from 2007.
"Mid-sized cities in developed countries with relatively low population densities tend to score well by having all the cultural and infrastructural benefits on offer with fewer problems related to crime or congestion," said Jon Copestake, editor of the report, in a statement.
Pittsburgh was the top US city with 29th place - just ahead of Honolulu - while Los Angeles moved up three places to 44th and New York held onto the 56th spot.
London moved up one place to 53rd while Paris came in at number 16.
The top Asian city was Osaka at number 12, tying Geneva, Switzerland and beating out the Japanese capital of Tokyo, which came in at 18.
Hong Kong came in at 31 but Beijing, capital of the world's most populous nation and No 2 economy, straggled in at 72.
There was also little change at the bottom, with Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe, once again claiming the worst position with a rating of 37.5 percent, narrowing beating out the Bangladesh capital of Dhaka.
The Economist Intelligence Unit survey ranks cities based on 30 factors such as healthcare, culture and environment, and education and personal safety.
Following is a list of the top 10 most liveable cities as ranked by The Economist Intelligence Unit:
1. Vancouver, Canada
2. Melbourne, Australia
3. Vienna, Austria
4. Toronto, Canada
5. Calgary, Canada
6. Helsinki, Finland
7. Sydney, Australia
8. (equal) Perth, Australia
8. (equal) Adelaide, Australia
10. Auckland, New Zealand
The bottom 10 cities were:
1. Harare, Zimbabwe
2. Dhaka , Bangladesh
3. Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea
4. Lagos, Nigeria
5. Algiers , Algeria
6. Karachi, Pakistan
7. Douala, Cameroon
8. Tehran, Iran
9. Dakar, Senegal
10. Colombo, Sri Lanka

Change Faces background in iPhoto '11

Another good tip !!

Ever disliked the default Faces background in iPhoto? Ever thought it was distracting? Then this is for you.

First, navigate to:

/Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/Resources/

and look for a file named 'people-cork.png.' This is the background for Faces in iPhoto. Simply replace this with a new background of your choice. However, it seems like doing this operation requires system authentication. So, what you should do is make a copy of the original image, then delete it from the Resources folder. Then, copy the new image in, authenticating in the process. Remember to keep the old image just in case you wish to revert back later.

A good place to find backgrounds is surprisingly in Apple's Mail Stationary. Simply go to:

/Library/Application Support/Apple/Mail/Stationary

If you hit 'Show Package Contents' on the stationary nested in those folders, you can actually find many great backgrounds. Simply name it 'people-cork' (with a format of PNG).

Yahoo Plus IMAP Settings for Mac OS X Mail

Very interesting. #FWIW

If you have tried and failed to configure the Apple e-mail client for your Yahoo Plus mail account here's a solution. Note: This hint has only been tested and known to work on Mac OS X 10.6.6 and Mail 4.4 Build 1082.

Here is the process:
  • With Mail open, on the Menu Bar click Mail » Preferences.
  • Click the plus sign to add an account.
  • Type your name, as you'd like it to appear.
  • Type your e-mail address (including the domain) example = your.name@yahoo.com.
  • Type your password INCORRECTLY making it anything OTHER THAN the correct password. Click Create.
  • You'll receive an error prompt that the login failed, stating there may be an additional fee for Yahoo POP access. Don't worry, you're a subscriber and this was expected. Click Continue.
  • In the Account Type field click the drop down box and select IMAP. In the Incoming Server field replace 'plus.pop' with 'imap' and then click Continue.
  • You'll notice a spinning gear indicating that Mail is checking the connection -- this could take up to a minute or two depending on your connection speed and server activity. Upon successfully connecting you'll be prompted to click Continue.
  • For the Outgoing Mail Server you'll need to delete the 'plus' so the server name reads smtp.mail.yahoo.com. The Use Authentication checkbox should be selected - now, type your CORRECT password!
  • The next box provides a summary of your changes so far. Verify you've entered the Incoming Server as imap.mail.yahoo.com, the Outgoing Mail Server as smtp.mail.yahoo.com and SSL is set to ON for both servers. At this point we are not ready to take the account online so clear that check box. Click Create.
Now that the account is created there are a few settings that need to be changed.
  • First, click the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) drop down box, then Edit SMTP Server List.
  • Click the Advanced tab, then click Use custom port and enter 465. Your correct password should have been populated to that field previously. Click OK.
  • Now, click the Advanced tab and change the default port from 995 (POP) to 993 (IMAP).
  • Close the Accounts dialog box and save your changes. Provided you've completed these steps properly you should be ready to take your account online.
  • Click Mailbox » Take all accounts online. Your IMAP folders on the server should now begin the replication and population process.
I searched every forum I could think of, including calling Apple Tech Support and this is the only solution I found that works. If you have a better mousetrap please let us all know!

I have also posted a narrated slide show of the procedure here.

The best Photography Apps for Android

Cameraphones have come a long way, but you have options beyond point, shoot, and pray to get a great shot. Our favorite photo-related apps for Android snap great shots, add quality effects, edit and share images, and otherwise improve your mobile-photo game.

Camera 360

The Best Photography Apps for Your Android
Camera360 is a camera replacement app that covers a wide variety of camera effects not offered in the stock shooter. HDR-style enhancements, black-and-white shooting, sepia and aging effects for different time periods, high-contrast reverse stock, tilt-shift effects, and so many more. Photo geeks can also shoot with grids, selective focus (on hardware that supports it), set delays, and otherwise make their Android feel more like a feature-loaded point-and-shoot. (Free, $4 for a Pro version with more unlocked effects). [AppBrain]

Adobe Photoshop Express
The Best Photography Apps for Your Android
It's easier to edit and touch up photos on larger screens, but if you want to share something before you get a chance to sync to your desktop—and the pic could use just a little straightening, cropping, lighting balance, or other effects—load it up in Photoshop Express first. It's surprisingly well-stocked for a free app from the Photoshop makers, and it's tailored for making quick fixes with your fingers. (Free) [Homepage] [AppBrain]

Vignette

The Best Photography Apps for Your Android
Vignette combines a great camera, loaded with shooting effects, with a huge variety of post-shot photo effects. Vignette's specialty is framing your shots, along with adding artistic aging, lighting, and other effects that match its namesake. Beyond that, the camera mode also offers some neat tricks, like tapping the screen to shoot and a "fast shot" mode with no recovery or preview time. Recommended if you can't choose between a good shooting app and a great effects tool. (Free, $3.90-ish official version unlocks more effects and frames) [Homepage] [AppBrain]

PicSay

The Best Photography Apps for Your Android
PicSay can do subtle, general edits to your photo's saturation, tint, and the like, but that's not what you use it for. It's an instant markup tool for adding speech balloons, color pops, distortions, lightsabers—stuff that's goofy, fun, and impossible not to forward to your friends. (Free, $4.70 Pro app adds features) [Homepage] [AppBrain]

AndroPan

The Best Photography Apps for Your Android
As you might imagine, AndroPan takes photos that you've taken in a side-by-side series and stitches them into one big panoramic shot. The output varies by phone model, and those that can fine-tune their lighting and exposure settings (mostly to turn off automatic adjustments) will get the best results. Still, even with just your basic smartphone camera, AndroPan gives you a much wider perspective from a very small lens. Image via Panoramio. (Free) [Homepage] [AppBrain]

Retro Camera

The Best Photography Apps for Your Android
If you've ever looked at an ancient plastic camera in a thrift store or attic and though, "Boy, I wish I could shoot with that," Retro Camera should be your next free download. You get five classic old-school camera styles to shoot with, and the shots you take (through a stylized viewfinder) are customized to look as though you developed that camera's film. It's basically a Hipstamatic for Android. (Free, $3 Pro version removes ads) [Homepage] [AppBrain]

3D Gallery

The Best Photography Apps for Your Android
Honestly, this app might be a total knock-off of Google's stock 3D photo browsing application for modern Android phones. But we can't entirely shy away from pointing to it, because Google's Gallery is the best around for Android phones, yet so few have it, due to the custom apps HTC, Motorola, Samsung, and other Android makers insist on installing, even if better alternatives exist. You get a nice view of all your photos, pinch-to-zoom expansion of photo folders, easy selection and sharing, and built-in wallpaper setting. If you approve its connection, 3D Gallery also makes short work of bulk uploading to Picasa, just like Google's own gallery app. Grab it while it's there, because, well, Google might take notice. [AppBrain]

Pixelpipe

The Best Photography Apps for Your Android
If you're shooting stills and video not just for yourself, but for a few different content spots—a Flickr account, a blog, a Twitter stream, and so on—you need Pixelpipe. Shoot your photo with whatever camera app you like, then head into Pixelpipe to send it on its way to all your different media outlets. Pixelpipe supports over 110 services, including personal use apps like Evernote and Dropbox, and video outlets like Vimeo. You'll need to create an account at Pixelpipe's web siteto get all that access, but it seems really convenient once you're past the setup. (Free) [Homepage] [AppBrain]
